Will your phone take an eSIM?
- 1

Dial *#06#
An EID in the list means the phone has an eSIM chip.
- 2

Check the lock
A phone locked to its carrier refuses other networks. Ask the carrier to unlock it.
- 3

Check the model
Some models ship without eSIM in certain markets. The list below shows the main ones.
Phones with eSIM
- Apple iPhone XS, XR and later. Most models sold in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao have no eSIM.
- Google Pixel 3 and later. Some Pixel 3, 3a and 4 models have no eSIM, depending on where they were sold.
- Other makers, such as Samsung: dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Not sure? Ask the maker or the shop that sold you the phone before you buy a plan.

Keep your own number
Most phones with eSIM hold two lines. Your home SIM keeps your number for calls and texts, and the EuropeSIM eSIM carries your data.
- Two lines on one phone: choose the eSIM for mobile data and keep the home line for calls and texts.
- Turn off data roaming on your home line, so that it uses no data abroad.
- WhatsApp, iMessage and other messaging apps keep your number, because they run on data.
Texts such as bank codes still reach your home line. Your home carrier may charge for texts and calls abroad.

The facts about local SIMs and roaming come from the sources below.
Coverage in Monte Carlo, the Rock, Port Hercule, Larvotto and Fontvieille
Monaco has one national network, Monaco Telecom, and the whole principality has 4G and 5G coverage. Monaco Telecom brought 5G here in 2019. Since March 2024, the customers of the French networks Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free Mobile use the Monaco Telecom network when they visit the principality. Monaco is not in the EU or the EEA, so the EU roaming rules do not apply here.
